Sebaceous cysts are storage cysts that form as a result of the gradual sebum accumulation due to the obstruction of sebaceous ducts in the skin, and are a common benign skin lesion.
If left untreated, sebaceous cysts that occur along the face may be aesthetically disfiguring and may overgrow, leading to secondary infection of the surrounding tissue, redness, pus, pain, and scarring when the cyst breaks down, and in a few patients, cancer, although the probability of occurrence is extremely low.
Therefore, patients who develop sebaceous cysts should be treated promptly.

If the sebaceous cyst is small, it can be left untreated at this time and reviewed regularly. However, if the sebaceous cyst is growing rapidly, is large, or is aesthetically disruptive, the patient can be treated surgically, such as sebaceous cyst excision, under medical supervision. If a bacterial infection is stimulated, patients can be treated with medications such as dermabrasion cranial heart ointment and fulvestrant ointment as prescribed by their doctor.
Patients should be careful to keep their skin clean and avoid touching and squeezing with their hands to avoid infection. If patients experience discomfort, they should go to the hospital in a timely manner to avoid delaying their condition.
